week zero, sunday...1!

[squelching]

[just sitting in the now clean capsule hotel, swinging her legs idly while playing on her phone. she nods in his direction when she notices him.

is he still wearing his onesie or is he wearing another set of clothes...]

[resumed]

[ imagine if i said he's still in the onesie. but no. he has his usual clothes on (the black jeans, black and white sneakers, black shirt with a skeleton or skull somewhere on it, black bomber jacket) and he has his hands in his pockets. he nods back though. ]

Did you learn anything from your team leader today? [ which is sort of like saying hi. ]

[resumed]

[ probably somewhere around the arcade, he's busy checking out the outside where all of the caution tape is up when he sees saya still nearby. ]

I knew this place was cursed. [ does he mean the city? no he means the arcade specifically. fun is not allowed. ]

[squelching]

[ARCADE'S HAUNTED... she is still so hungry for snacks, but she stops to talk to him.]

Mm... They won't let you go inside?

week zero, saturday.

[today is really about to be the villain origin story of so many characters in this cast. help. saya just sits down with him wherever it is he's vibing.]

[ IT SURE AS FUCK IS. he looks over at her briefly, frowning into the abyss. ]

All things considered? I'm thinking we would have been better off if this is how they're going to treat us and expect us to treat each other.

[resumed]

[ he's still wandering after his return to the city! but he will occasionally glance to see if saya continues to follow. ]

[squelching]

[she probably stopped to check up on her teammate first after a while, but now she's back to following him, so. hi.]

w2 monday

[resumed]

[ at some point, nico is coming out of the bookstore at the mall and seems to have a few items in his hands. he also has a demon hanging out in the hood of his jacket, white glowing eyes peering around before it chirps at saya in greeting.

that's about the only reason nico seems to notice she's there and he slows down. ]

Hey, Saya. Looking around? [ malls are big. ]

[squelching]

[COCOA PUFFS... her fave. she wiggles her fingers at the baby before she pays attention to nico.]

Mhmm! There are more stores here than I expected.

week two, thursday.

[squelching]

[WHY WERE WE BOTH ON CYOA!!!!

anyway, the absolute hilarity of nico's group coming back super fucked up while saya is completely unharmed.]

... What happened to you?

[resumed]

[ a great question! also listen he's glad she's fine, frankly. we are in phoenix dorm somehow and he's kind of bundled up, will asleep next to him and he shrugs a little at the question. ]

I suppose this place realized it could make things even more difficult. [ a pause. ] Are you okay? I heard you guys disappeared as well.

[resumed]

[ somewhere in the void...there's a very deep, bone-weary sigh. ]

This entire week has been terrible, which is saying something.

[squelching]

... Mhmm. It's been awful.

We still have a month to go.

week three, monday.

[squelching]

[they are at the game shop, where saya recognizes absolutely none of the desktop games. and most of the board games, too. help.]

Do you see anything you recognize, Nico?

[resumed]

[ i'm going to give him a few moments where he won't be an embarrassment and say that he's still browsing. ]

Mmhm. A lot of these are things from home. I've played some of them but not others? Or at least something close. It continues to baffle me how this place can be so close to what some of us are used to.

w3 saturday

[resumed]

[ god. today was so exhausting and nico very, very desperately kind of wants to drop dead and pass out for a few hours.

but he's not, because he has people to check on, and it's why he makes his way to snorm with the hopes of running into a certain girl. ]

Saya. [ just to get her attention. ] ...it's been...a really, really long day. Are you good?

[squelching]

... I'm fine.

[she is not. she looks the angriest he's ever seen her, really. but she's holding it together for now.]

I just want it to be tomorrow already.

week four, monday.

[squelching]

[welcome to (throws dart) the anime store. i'll get you a mem in a minute, but for now — saya is looking through the hero figurines like she thinks this is the funniest shit ever. she looks up when she spots nico, and she immediately... glares at him?]

Why are you here? Go away.

[... except she says this and she seems to be startled by it, blinking in surprise. this is fine and normal.]

[resumed]

[ HELLO? he actually looks extremely baffled by this and glares back on instinct. ]

I just got here. [ rude! but then saya seems surprised and he raises an eyebrow. ] ...are you okay?

week four, friday.

[squelching]

[GOD. why has this been the worse week, actually.

nico will have to look for A While if he wants to check in on her, but eventually, he will find her. somewhere. she's curled up with her knees pulled up to her chest, staring at the ground with the dead eyed stare of someone who is all out of tears. but she lifts her gaze when he stumbles into her little hidey hole, quietly sniffling. hi.]

[resumed]

[he doesn't stop looking until he comes across her, and when he does he doesn't speak. instead he looks at her, quietly observing. his hood is up and his hands are in his pockets so she can't see much of his expression or his hands, but eventually he crouches to sit in front of her. ]

...I'm sorry. We'll figure it out. [ his voice is a little hoarse, but he figures no matter how awful he feels saya must be feeling even worse. ]

w4 sunday

[resumed]

hey where are you?
are you somewhere safe?

[squelching]

[it takes a while, but he gets a response:]

I am. I just made it back to my dorm.

week five, tuesday.

[squelching]

[flings this at you a thousand years later but anyway--

saya is currently trying to drag a giant skeleton out of discount spirit halloween... this thing is three times her height. why is it preassembled.]

[resumed]

[ s. saya. nico watches this for a second and soon he's dashing over to her side to try and grab the stupid skeleton's legs. ]

You know, it might be easier if you condensed him a little.

week six, friday.

[squelching]

[god. this sucks. even looking at the cute pictures of their dead friends on the newspaper isn't making it suck less.]

If someone killed Vane and Ponta before Fox could get a kill... [she's gonna lose it.

why are two out of three bodies foxes!!!]

[resumed]

[ he is vibrating with anger at this point and also probably stalking off in the direction of the grocery store. come along, saya. ]

I know. I'm gonna commit an actual murder in trial and this time I won't let anybody stop me. [ who allowed this!! why are there so many bodies, period!! ]

week six, sunday.

[squelching]

[she's giving him a few hours to wake up and spend time with his very alive boyfriend before she goes looking for him

but once she does, she immediately runs to him. and if he allows it, she's pulling him into a hug.]

I don't know what happened, but I'm so, so relieved.

[resumed]

[ maybe nimona let her in when she was here earlier. logistics don't matter. all that matters is they're at phoenix dorm, he's definitely in what looks like pajama pants, a t-shirt and he's barefoot, and when she runs he's just hugging back probably tighter than most people would expect from him. it's relief and it's gratitude and it's also just support because he also has no idea what just happened. ]

I never. Want to do that again. [ is what he says first because gods. ] I don't even remember the ending after the water, but...whatever happened, I don't care. I'm just...glad.

[ he thinks maybe it's biased to say he's relieved, too, but he does think all of them sort of needed this win. however they got it. ]
