Yeah. [a little smile.] If there's another world after this one, I hope it's less... stupid.

after a moment:]

Hey, Nimona? Thanks. For this. And earlier, too.

[she says to the first part, but then:]

... Yeah, of course. [she gives her a little squeeze.] I don't know, I think - maybe we're kind of similar, so. Obviously I'm not going to just let that... y'know.

[good talk, eloquent, nimona]

[squelching]

[it's okay. she understands, she thinks. her smile stays, but it shifts into something a little sadder.]

You think so...? [...] Your ability is something you've always had, right? You can... be whatever you want to be.

[sharkgirl]

[she nods.]

... More, outside of here. I'm kinda stuck here, but yeah. It's something I've had forever. [...] It's not always nice, though.

[squelching]

[she hums, thoughtfully.]

... Because they weren't nice to you, either, were they?

[she rests her head against saya's.]

Bet they weren't to you either, though.

[she shifts a little, so their positions are more comfortable.]

... There were only two people in the world who would look at me without being scared, or... [so. yes. she trails off and then, quietly:] Can I tell you a secret, Nimona?

[man, if that's not familiar she doesn't know what is.]

Of course you can. I'll keep it.

[squelching]

... I didn't look like a human before. Not until I got here. [sometimes, you wake up with legs and fall out of your capsule.] Everyone's nicer to me now.

I don't want the way they look at me to change.

that - makes her sad. her heart kind of aches, in that lonely, old sort of way. she shifts, to kind of just hug saya however she can.]

... Yeah, I get it. [she says. she holds out her hand in front of them, looking at it. human, for now.]

They only like you when you look like something they're used to. Otherwise they get scared. Try to hurt whatever is different from them. [a beat.] It doesn't matter to me what you look like, but I know that doesn't help very much.

[she doesn't want anybody here to change the way they look at her, either. so she gets it.]

[squelching]

... Yeah. [a sigh.] It's not fair, is it?

[and isn't that such a terrible thing to internalize? craving companionship your whole life, and getting it when you literally don't even look like yourself.

she looks at nimona's hand and flexes her own, watching her own fingers move like, hm. those sure are attached to me.]

It doesn't matter to me what you look like, either. You're Nimona, my friend, and that's all I care about.

[sharkgirl]

[that makes her smile a bit, and she kind of just like - noses at the side of saya's head in a playfully aggressive sort of way. it's less silly than the gif - kind of somber, but still.

she settles, and then:]

You're my friend too.

[it's kind of surprising how easy that comes.]

[squelching]

[aw. she huffs out a little laugh and, for a lack of better work, lightly headbutts her in the same way a cat would. that little affectionate head bump.]
